One special occasion deserves another, so we’re going slightly outside of the Chelsea borders, for today’s Today in Chelsea entry. A Mother’s Day experience unlike any other awaits, when you witness The Pink Unicorn.

Written by Elise Forier Edie, directed by Amy Jones and starring Tony winner Alice Ripley, The Pink Unicorn is an award-winning solo theatre piece, which tells the story of a Christian widow, living in a conservative Texas town, whose life is thrown into turmoil when her teenaged daughter announces she is “gender queer” and starting a chapter of the Gay and Straight Alliance at the local high school.

Produced originally in Washington by DogTown Theatre, the play was invited to perform at the United Solo Theatre Festival in New York City, where Elise won the Best Storyteller award. It has since performed elsewhere in the US and Canada—and is currently back for a NYC run.

At 2pm and 7pm Sunday, May 12, then through May 25, at The Episcopal Actor’s Guild (1 E. 29th St.). For tickets ($39-$79, with VIP package also available), visit www.ootbtheatrics.com.
