This Week in Chelsea: February 10-16, 2020

Friday, February 14, 11:30am: “Celebrating Monumental Women” | Celebrate women winning the right to vote at two great events, as part of Monumental Women’s countdown to the 100th anniversary of the ratification of the 19th Amendment. Join Manhattan Borough President Gale Brewer and Monumental Women on Fri., Feb. 14, at 11:30am in Madison Square Park (corner of Broadway and 23rd St.), to say happy early 200th birthday to Susan B. Anthony. The women’s suffrage leader, abolitionist, author, and New Yorker was born on Feb. 15, 1820, and Borough President Brewer will issue a proclamation declaring it “Susan B. Anthony Day.” The Feb. 14 event will celebrate the life and accomplishments of the pioneering feminist and civil rights activist. Later this year, Anthony, along with the suffragists and abolitionists Sojourner Truth and Elizabeth Cady Stanton, will be immortalized in the Women’s Rights Pioneers Monument, to be unveiled in Central Park on Aug. 26, the 100th anniversary of the ratification of the 19th Amendment, when women won the right to vote. The statue is the work of the all-volunteer nonprofit Monumental Women, and will be the first to depict real, nonfictional women in Central Park. (Note: Above photo courtesy of Monumental Women.)
