Reform Dems, CB4 Each Offer Chelsea NYCHA Info Sessions

NOTE: On the afternoon of Wed., Sept. 20, event organizers announced the cancellation of their below Panel Discussion.

The Chelsea Reform Democratic Club (CRDC) Presents a Panel Discussion on the Proposed NYCHA (NYC Housing Authority) Fulton Houses and Elliott-Chelsea Conversion

Thursday, September 21

7pm-10pm

Online Via Zoom

This event promises to shed light on crucial aspects of the proposed redevelopment of Fulton and Elliott-Chelsea NYCHA Houses. The public/private partnership arrangement would see private interests demolish existing public residences and replace them with new facilities (additionally building market rate residences and managing all facilities). Event organizers say the evening’s gathering of stakeholders will provide “valuable insights into what it means for residents and the broader Chelsea community.”

No registration is necessary—but doing so allows you to submit questions you’d like to be addressed during the panel. To RSVP, click here. If attending unregistered, click here for access close to the event’s 7pm start time. Note: The Meeting ID is 895 9938 2585 and the Passcode is 589115. To attend via One Tap Mobile (phone), call 646-931-3860 (when prompted, dial 89599382585#).

Members of the Panel include: Human rights attorney Norman Siegel, offering info re: the plan’s legal aspects, and residents’ rights during this transition; Miguel Acevedo, President of the Fulton Houses Tenants Association (a prominent community leader bringing a resident’s perspective on conversion’s impact on the neighborhood; Public housing tenants advocate Marquis Jenkins, representing advocacy efforts and the challenges faced by public housing tenants; Resident representatives directly impacted by the transition; and Executive Vice President for Real Estate Development Jonathan Gouveia and Senior Advisor Heather Beck will be representing NYCHA. The panel will be moderated by Layla Law-Gisiko, who brings her expertise in urban planning and community development (Law-Gisiko is Chair of Manhattan Community Board 5’s Land Use, Housing & Zoning committee and President, City Club of New York).
