Lady Bunny’s ‘Very Blue Christmas’ Delivers Dirty Ditties by the Dozen

BY SCOTT STIFFLER | Leave it to that reliabe old slayer of sacred cows–Lady Bunny–to greet this holiday season with the promise of a dirty, disgusting public display. From her perch in Times Square (aka the Laurie Beechmen Theatre), Lady Bunny: A Very Blue Christmas welcomes you to witness NYC’s own potty-mouthed “pig in a wig” introduce eerything we’re expected to respect about the holidays to the business end of 1,000 poop and pee jokes. And some leftover splatter for the woke, the politically correct, and/or the easily offended.

If that’s you, suggests the show’s press release, save all involved the needless hassle and just don’t buy a ticket. But if you’re in the mood for an unapologetic guttermouth stooping as low as she can go just to make you laugh, then Lady Bunny is your gal.  And for this year’s holiday show, Bunny is dipping deep into her back catalog of tuneful atrocities, to unload a sack full of over 30 raunch-infested parody versions of Christmas classics and originals.

What happens at any given show is anyone’s guess—but we’ve been told to expect sick, sick selections such as Rudolpho the Uncut Reindeer, Santa Claus is Spreading COVID Around, a naughty holiday tribute to Laugh-In, and a ‘Twas the Night Before Xmas that sets its cruel sights on a slew of RuPaul’s Drag Race queens.

Connecting the dozens of comedic vignettes together (in the same manner demonic alchemy allows skin to cling to a woman of Bunny’s age) is the “B Factor.” As in ballsy, bawdy, bent, and, of course, blue. It doesn’t matter if you’ve been bad or good—Bunny’s show embraces all comers who can pay the cover, cough up $25 for the food/drink minimum. Having said that, it’s worth mentioning once again that the show is a safe space where sex, politics, religion, promiscuity, poop, pee, and pegging show up as parody song lyrics calculated to leave a nasty stain on their source material. So if you love blue humor–or identify as “blue-curious,” get your ticket now and spend a little bit of the holiday season shedding your sense of shame and finding the funny about everything (including yourself). Now THAT is kind of gift Lady Bunny knows how to wrap with perverse perfection.

“Lady Bunny: A Very Blue Christmas” is performed at 7pm on Thursday, December 7 & 14 and Saturday, December 9 as well as at 9:30pm on Friday, December 8 & 15 at the Laurie Beechman Theatre (located inside West Bank Cafe, 407 W. 42nd St. btw. 9th & 10th Aves.). General admission tickets are $25. VIP tickets that include reserved seating and an autographed photo of Bunny (no meet-and greet) are $36. Please note that there is also a $25 food/drink minimum at all performances at this venue; full dinner menu available. To purchase tickets, click here. For artist info, click here.
