This Week In & Around Chelsea: April 22-28, 2024

Here’s What’s Happening This Week In & Around Chelsea

10th Precinct Community Council / Medicare & Medicaid 101/ Life is a Dream / Two Shred Opportunities / Down to Earth Farmers Market Chelsea / #ReframeClimate

10th Precinct Community Council Meeting: Wednesday, April 24, 7pm at the 10th Precinct (230 W. 20th St. btw. 7th & 8th Aves.) |  Having assumed Commanding Officer duties late last year, one of the general public’s all-too-rare opportunities to meet Capt. Alexander Brathwaite (and pose questions) happens as he (almost always) represents the 10th Precinct at Community Council meetings (held at 7pm on the last Wed. of the month, except during June-August’s summer hiatus). Organized and moderated by Council President Larry O’Neill, this monthly citizen-run event features a Q&A session that has a good track record of examining the results of insights given and reasurrances made at previous Council meetings (a level of accountabiity that’s been particularly useful over the years when it comes to crime and quality of life concerns at and around the corner of Eighth Ave. and West 21st St.). Want to keep up with Council goings-on? Follow the Community Council on Facebook by clicking here.

The event takes place at St. Peter’s Chelsea Church (346 W. 20th St. btw. 8th & 9th Aves). To attend via Zoom, visit Chelsea Community Church’s website by clicking here. Questions? #ReframeClimate: Large-Scale Photos & Digital Installation On View through May at Pier 57 & Chelsea Market | This series of large-scale photographs representing the effects of climate change graces the walls of Pier 57 as part of the  #ReframeClimate art campaign. It features documentary images alongside interactive prompts, inviting viewers to reflect on the implications of climate change on people and the environment. Displayed inside Pier 57’s Market 57 and Living Room public space, #ReframeClimate is open to the public and will be on view until May 2024. A digital version of the art installation will also be on display on screens throughout the nearby Chelsea Market. Featured photographers include Noah Berger, Arko Datto, Katie Orlinksy, and Gaia Squarci. The work, including images from an open waste dump in Jakarta, Indonesia and the Atlas Fire in Napa, California, challenge notions of what climate change looks like while prompting viewers via QR codes to listen to the story behind each image. Pier 57 is located within Hudson River Park at W. 15th St,; Chelsea Market is at Ninth Ave. at W. 15th St. For more info on the exhibition, click here.
