NYC Council Member Erik Bottcher’s “Policy Perspectives” Series Presents
“Mental Health and the Clubhouse Model”
An Online Conversation & Q&A at 5pm on Wednesday, May 22
Chelsea’s own City Council Member Erik Bottcher has made NYC’s mental health policy a priority since first campaigning for the District 3 seat. Bottcher advocates for a more nuanced, compassionate approach. (He’s never shied away from telling his own story: His City Council bio has always noted his “struggles with depression.”) One innovative contribution to fostering better mental health is the Clubhouse Model—which, the Council Member notes, was “created decades ago by Hell’s Kitchen’s own Fountain House and is now used internationally” as a “community-based service model that helps people with a history of serious mental illness rejoin society and maintain their place in it.”
For more info, see Point #5 in the 8-Point Plan Bottcher promoted in 2021, when first running for City Council. To view the Plan in its entirety, click here and to access our 2021 Q&A regarding that Plan, click here. As for what’s planned for the May 22 Clubhouse Model-themed event, Council Member Bottcher says, “Please join us as we delve into this topic during a Zoom conversation and Q&A with Ken Zimmerman, the CEO of Fountain House. We will also be joined by Ashley Anderson, a Fountain House member.”
