BY ROBERTA GELB | On August 4, 2024, the Chelsea Reform Democratic Club (CRDC) had our annual BBQ at The Lightship Frying Pan (Pier 66, at West 26th Street). I arrived early in the midst of a major thunderstorm. By 5:45pm, the sun not only came out but was accompanied by a lovely rainbow—a good omen for the Democrats!
Many optimistic people—politicians, judges, and club members among them, all with appetites in tow—arrived. The BBQ food was great: veggie burgers, franks, homemade potato salad, guacamole & chips, and corn & bean salad. Our ticket included a drink—and boy oh boy, this white sangria was perfect. Dessert was sliced watermelon and blueberries, which made those watching their diets happy. (There was so much food, we sent people home with doggie bags!)
In addition to the sunshine, we had a nice breeze. Everyone had a great time, and we got to see some new faces. Our judicial delegates and alternates had a chance to chat with some of the candidates and possible future judges. In addition to meeting with those running for judge, it was fun to mingle with everyone. It’s such a nice, affordable social event.
If you missed this year’s annual event, be on the lookout around the same time next year (before the judicial convention). If you are not already a member of the Chelsea Reform Democratic Club, I encourage you to join us. (Full disclosure: I am the CRDC’s President). Joanne Sinovoi (Co-Chair Membership, Executive Committee member at large), suggests it is a good opportunity to get involved right now, especially with the upcoming presidential election.
