‘Treats in the Streets’ Made Meatpacking District the Destination for Costumed Kids & Dressed-Up Dogs

Saturday, October 19, 2024: Stores and restaurants across the Meatpacking District offered treats to costumed kids who roamed the streets–along the way, engaging in games and activities including pumpkin ring toss and pumpkin tic-tac-toe. Scheduled activities included live performances from Jammcard musicians, pumpkin painting, and Storytime readings of The Five Blind Men and Elephant and Lai-Lai the Baby Elephant, courtesy of The Cultue Tree (appropriate literary selections, as October 19’s “Treats” took place one day before the departure of The Great Elephant Migration–an installation of nearly 100 individually carved, life-sized pachyderms that came to rest in the Meatpacking District a few weeks prior). And at 2pm, the Meatpacking District’s 6th Annual Dog Costume Contest, at Gansevoort Street & Ninth Ave., provided endlessly adorable eye candy as mutts strutted their stuff down the cobblestone runway in search of glory (or a belly rub or a treat). The daylong festivities were presented by Meatpacking, the area’s BID (Business Improvement District). To visit them online, click here.

At the half-way point of our Treats in the Streets 2024 photo roundup, we change to a decidedly canine-focused format, with the following collection of pix from Treats’ annual Dog Costume Contest.

And now, more images from elsewhere during the Treats in the Streets celebration…
