An unwavering source of strength known for the nutrition they provide finds itself in need, and is reaching out to the Chelsea community for help.
The Soup Kitchen & Pantry, run by the dedicated folks at Holy Apostles (296 Ninth Ave. at W. 28th St.), is calling on the public to help fill in some gaps in its network of valued volunteers (specifically, to assist with the Food Pantry).
“Volunteers are the heart of our whole operation,” notes this page on the Holy Apostles website. “From packing lunches to serving a hot meal, distributing pantry bags of food to passing out haircut vouchers, it is our volunteers who enable us to be here for our guests.”
In a recent email to Chelsea Community News, Volunteer and Outreach Manager Steve Fanto provided further details, noting they “distribute free groceries to approximately 800 families in need (per week)” via the Food Pantry. Guests line up “at our digitalized kiosks operated by volunteers. Other volunteers do the packing, converting each guest’s personalized order into plentiful bags of groceries that include produce, protein, and canned goods. Our “Supermarket” patrons leave for home better able to prepare and serve meals to their families.”
