Fourth ‘Saxelby Legacy’ Benefit Fêtes Namesake by Feeding Foodies, Raising Funds

PHOTOS COURTEY OF CHELSEA MARKET / TEXT BY SCOTT STIFFLER | A deliciously done benefit that closes Chelsea Market food hall and shopping mall for one night only saw September 18 as the occasion of its fourth annual iteration. In excess of 130 local chefs, artisans, and mixologists brought their best to the table, so to speak, at a series of stations snaking down the length of its sprawling host venue. Joined by patrons whose ticket purchase provided the cabbge that fueled this fundraiser, all assembed shared a common cause: Celebrate the namesake of the Anne Saxelby Legacy Fund (ASLF), and help ensure the future of farming by contributing to ASLF’s fully funded apprenticeship program, offered by 60 farms nationwide. Educating today’s up-and-comers with an eye toward the culinary landscape of tomorrow is a fitting celebration of Saxelby—the pioneering founder of Saxelby Cheesemongers in NYC, who championed artisan cheese and sustainable agriculture.

For one extraordinary night, the iconic Chelsea Market hosted the best of the best in food, from the legendary Ernesto’s and beloved Gramercy Tavern to acclaimed Carbone and more—many of which are booked out months in advance.
