This Week In & Around Chelsea: March 9-15, 2026

Here’s What’s Happening (in order of appearance):

hasing Rainbows | Protect Our Community and Prepare for ICE: A Free Training Session  | Trombone Trio Skyline Bones | West Side Community Fund: Spring 2026 Grant Cycle / Swearing-In of NYS Senator Erik Bottcher

Chasing Rainbows: The Global Premiere of Charlotte Colbert’s 30-Foot Tall Steel Sculptures, On View Outdoors in the Flatiron NoMad & Meatpacking Districts as of March 10 | This two-site, open-air installation from UK-based multi-disciplinary artist Charlotte Colbert pairs her large-scale sculptures with two district-adjacent pedestrian plazas: Dreamland Sirens can be found in Flatiron South Plaza (23rd St. & Broadway), while Where Angels Live takes up residence in 14th Street Square (W, 14th & Ninth Ave,). With visual cues that reference archetypal symbols and a narrative recalling larger-than-life fairy tales, Chasing Rainbows invites passersby to stop, look skyward, and access a surreal state where the worrisome and the whimsical run on parallel paths seen in the sculpture’s reflective silver steel. Chasing Rainbows is the first-ever such collaboration between the Flatiron NoMad Partnership and Meatpacking BIDs (Busiess Improvement Districts).

Protect Our Community and Prepare for ICE: A Free Training Session on Monday, March 16 | Noted Chelsea Neighbors United (CNU), in a recent email, “One thing we’ve learned from Minneapolis and other cities where ICE has run wild is that community engagement has been key to protecting their immigrant neighbors.” To that end, this training session lets you know “what to do if you see ICE on the street, at your schools, in the stores you go to, restaurants you eat in or [show up] at your homes.” Registration for this training (conducted by a rep from Hands Off NYC) is required, via https://bit.ly/4r35Z6E
