Halloween Block Party: Sunday, October 22, 10am-2pm In & Around Chelsea Green Park (140 W. 20th St. btw. 6th & 7th Aves.) | Friends of Chelsea Green’s annual Halloween Block Party is a feast of fun featuring free crafts and activities in the park,  Trick or Treating along the street at nearly 50 vendor tables, and a NYC Ghostbusters Slime Lab offering slime for the first 400 kids! In addition to this already scary good lineup, there will be a Thriller dance lesson and performances throughout the day from NY Redbulls Freestyle Crew, Broken Bones Skateboard Club, and more! A “Woofbowl” beckons leashed dogs to the block between 10am and 12pm—and tireless advocates Friends of Chelsea Green will hold their semi-annual Affordable Book Fair. Treats in the Streets: Sunday, October 22, 11am-5pm in the Meatpacking District | Find kid and adult-friendly treats, games and activities, live music, and the 5th Annual Meatpacking Doggie Costume Contest! Stores and restaurants will be open throughout the neighborhood with treats and delights at every stop. Attendees are invited to walk around the area to fill up their bags with items from around the district. The schedule: 11am–5pm: Meatpacking Makers on West 13th Street. Enjoy pumpkin painting and crafts for kids. / 11am–5pm: Live music on Gansevoort Plaza /11am–2pm: Pet Portraits by Laura Baran on Little West 12th St. (limited quantity) / 1pm: Drag Queen Story Hour with Harmonica Sunbeam / 2pm: The Meatpacking District’s 5th Annual Doggie Costume Contest on Little West 12th St. Grand prize is an overnight stay at the dog-friendly Gansevoort Hotel + tickets to the Whitney Museum! Early registration is now open. Onsite registration is available from 11am–1:30pm on Little West 12th St. / 3pm–5pm: Pet Portraits by Laura Baran on Little West 12th St. (limited quantity).

Candy and Collage: Family Halloween Day on Saturday, October 28, 11am–3pm at The Whitney Museum of American Art (99 Gansevoort Street) | Kids of all ages and families of all kinds are invited to arrive at the Whitney in costume and partake in artmaking. Create delicious candy collages and your very own shadow puppets or visit the new exhibitions on view. A Halloween scavenger hunt takes place in the galleries, and a Halloween photo booth allows you to walk away with lasting proof of the good time you had. It all takes place Saturday, October 28, 11am–3pm from the Susan and John Hess Family Theater and Hearst Artspace (third floor of the Whitney). This event is free with Museum admission. Bonus Event: The Whitney’s spooky celebrations kick off on with Halloween Teen Night, a free evening for teens full of lively music, dancing, and more! Hudson River Park’s Annual Pumpkin Smash: Saturday, November 4, 11am-2pm at Pier 84 (555 12th Ave., btw. the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum and the Circle Line) | Four days after Halloween—the career-high of a hollowed-out gourd’s seasonal work as a decorative, porch-based object—it’s time to show your pumpkins the door by introducing them to the business end of Hudson River Park’s annual Pumpkin Smash. Bring your own pumpkins and safety goggles, and you’ll be given your choice of a bat, hammer, or shovel and 15 minutes during which you can break down your pumpkin so it can be repurposed into compost used to create nutrient-rich soil Hudson River Park’s many plants.
