Musicgarten / The Full Board Meeting of CB5 / Lights on the Cobbles

Musicgarten in the Seahorse Classroom at Pier 57; Free; Times & Dates Vary | Musikgarten for Babies and Toddlers, led by Rachel, is a chance for families to learn to connect with children in a musical setting. The Full Board Meeting of Manhattan Community Board 5 (CB5): Thursday, January 11, 6pm, Online & In-Person at Xavier High School (30 W. 16th St.) | Following the “hybrid” model, CB5 requires its members to attend this meeting in person—and although the public is permitted to do the same, they’re encouraged to attend via Zoom (click here to register) or watch the livestream via CB5’s YouTube channel, on which an archived version of the proceedings will be available after-the-fact, in perpetuity. As for what’s on the Agenda: As of publication of this event listing, subject matter to be covered included the latest cannabis notifications to municipalities; Congestion pricing tolling recommendations from the MTA’s Traffic Mobility Review Board; and the NYC Department of City Planning’s Gaming Facility Text Amendment. Lights on the Cobbles: Through January 14 in the Meatpacking District | With the holiday hubbub having come and gone (good riddance, Rockefeller tree and most types of fruitcake!), what’s worthy of your destination event time can be found throughout the Meatpacking District. Through Jan. 14, the district’s BID (Business Improvement District) brings you, as the put it, “the ultimate winter wonderland photo op in the city! This year’s enhanced installation features snow people adorned with custom accessories and our iconic abstract colonnade with reflective walls in Gansevoort Plaza. Stroll along Ninth Avenue to witness upgraded light art, glowing dandelion-filled planters, and two illuminated geometric frames for the perfect photo backdrop.” They’re not kidding about the photo op claim: The oversized, artfully lit attractions appearing alongside the old timey cobblestones and a night sky unobscured by high-rise buildings gives the Meatpacing District a look and feel that’s not just Instagrammable–it’s downright cinematic.
