10th Precinct Third Quarter

Build the Block Meetings

NCOs, or Neighborhood Coordination Officers, host quarterly Buildthe Block meetings addressing crime and quality of life matters for the 10th Precinct’s three Sectors: A, B, & C. Expect introductory comments often discussing crime stats, trends, and prevention, with the majority of the meeting devoted to a Q&A session between the NCOs and attendees. Meetings these days are brick and mortar affairs, after conducting business via Zoom during the pandemic era.

Sector B’s area of coverage is the north side of W. 21st St. to south side of W. 29th St., from 7th Ave. to the Hudson. Your Sector B NCOs are PO James Farrell (James.Farrell@nypd.org) and PO Michael Caligiuru (Michael.Caligiuru@nypd.org). The Third Quarter Sector B Build the Block meeting is currently scheduled for 5pm on August 29. (To your left, see the screenshot and its caption for info. on the meeting’s location.)

Sector C’s area of coverage is W. 29th St. to W. 43rd St., 9th Ave. to the Hudson. Your Sector C NCO is PO Marian Bencea (Marian.Bencea@nypd.org ), with an additional NCO to be announced. The Third Quarter Sector C Build the Block meeting is currently scheduled for 12pm, noon, on August 27 at the Clinton Housing Development (311 11th Ave.).

Click here to find your Build the Block meeting. It’s a good idea to check in a day or two before, and then the day of a scheduled meeting, as plans do sometimes change on short notice. The 10th Precinct’s Twitter (aka “X”) account, @NYPD10Pct, will often tweet about an upcoming Build the Block meeting or provide info about a change in the previously announced venue and/or date. Unfortunately, no such tweet was sent from the 10th regarding Sector A’s Third Quarter meeting, which took place last week (at 5pm on July 25) at the 10th Precinct (230 W. 20th St. btw. 7th & 8th Aves.). In fact, the 10th’s Twitter account was inactive between July 17 (when they posted a Bike Laws flyer) and July 29 (when they retweeted an NYPD Catalytic Converter Theft Prevention event on Staten Island). Hopefully, the 10th’s Twitter (aka “X”) will be better about alerting followers of future Build the Block meetings, as it’s one of the few ways to find out such info–along with the sentence that began this paragaph (aka “Click here to find your Build the Block meeting“). To no avail, Chelsea Community News has requested (to the 10th’s Commanding Officer and to The Office of the Deputy Commissioner, Public Information) that each Build the Block Sector establish an email list, to alert potential attendees of upcoming meetings. In any event: Sector A’s area of coverage is W. 14th St. to W. 21st St., 7th Ave. to the Hudson. Your Sector A NCOs are PO Jayson Milatz (JaysonMilatz@nypd.org) and PO Jason Bagliore (JasonBagliore@nypd.org).

10th Precinct Announces Arrival of Three New Officers

If the above paragraph shook your faith, consider this: The 10th Precinct’s Twitter account returned to form with its tweet of July 30, noting, “Meet new officers assigned to the 10th Precinct. They are eager to help & protect our community.” That’s encouraging news, given the precint’s loss of four recently transferred Police Officers., as Chelsea Community News reported in our June 17, 2024 article (click here to read it in full). The article’s applicable section read:

The precinct’s Commanding Officer, Captain Alexander R. Brathwaite, noted with regret the loss of Police Officers who had consistently been assigned in pairs to be a presence on the corner [of Eighth Ave. & West 21st St.] and in the surrounding area. The four Officers, recent Police Academy graduates, arrived at the 10th Precinct early this year, short of the eight that were expected. Now, reported Capt. Brathwaite, “We lost our Officers,” who’ve been “put in Midtown South [Precinct] for the summer. That’s four less cops, and we lost another two today.”

Note: The 10th Precinct’s citizen-run Community Council is on summertime hiatus, but is expected to return at on September 25 (location TBA). You’ll be pointed in the right direction–and if it is a police matter, your information will show up in stats and reports seen by 10th Precinct leadership, who’ll use that info to create an action plan and allocate resources.
