The Local Way to Take Part in National Night Out Against Crime (Tues. Aug. 6)

National Night Out Against Crime: Tuesday, August 6, 2024

BY SCOTT STIFFLER | Held annually on the first Tuesday in August, National Night Out Against Crime (aka National Night Out) is a community-building campaign meant to, its organizers say, promote “police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make our neighborhoods safer, more caring places to live” by enhancing “the relationship between neighbors and law enforcement while bringing back a true sense of community. “ For more information, click here to visit the event’s website. In New York City, National Night Out observances typically take place as block parties with food (always free and often grilled) and activities, many of the geared toward younger guests. No, sorry adults—you can’t go wild inside the bouncy house (or castle, as the case may be). But you can chat up your neighborhood police officers as well as top precinct leadership, and walk away with some names newly attached to faces—all of which will prove useful should situations arise that require help from the NYPD.

For most of Chelsea, the 10th Precinct is your point of contact (via 311, 911, or walking into their 230 W. 20th St. HQ). For our recently published roundup of 10th Precinct info, including upcoming Build the Block meetings, click here. To visit the nyc.gov page of any NYPD precinct, click here. As for the rest of Chelsea protected and served by the NYPD, that would be the 13th Precinct, which covers slivers and swaths of Chelsea’s easternmost portion.

As such, see our publication 0f promotional flyers for National Night Out observances by the 10th and 13th Precincts. That’s followed by promo flyers for Midtown North and Midtown South, in acknowledgement of Chelsea Community News’ commitment to step outside its strictly Chelsea borders in the interest of investigating the goings-on of adjacent areas…
