The Green Room, a Live Music and Arts Series at Verdi Cannabis (158 W. 23rd St. btw. 6th & 7th Aves.) | Having opened in January, legal cannabis distributor Verdi Cannabis gets down to the business of regular event programming. “We are doing this to bring the community together through music, arts, and cannabis; to make Verdi a safe, comfortable, fun place for people to come to and experience culture,” says Green Room co-curator Kenny Cunningham.
The music part of the series happens every Thursday. November’s roster is as follows: Thursday, 11/14, 7pm-9:30pm music from Greg McLoughlin’s Lemonade Band (sponsored by The Bettering Company and Umamii). Thursday, 11/21, it’s music from High-Fi 4, from 7pm-9:30pm. Friday, 11/29, DANKSGIVING is the Green Room Live Music Series Takeover by Dank. Music from IRIEspect, 7pm-9:30pm.
Saturday, 11/16, it’s Verdi’s first “Bike and Bake” event. Cyclists will meet at Verdi or Columbus Circle. Any customer participating in the ride should come to Verdi first for a special surprise (the route can be found on Verdi’s IG and website). Saturday, 11/23, celebrate the official launch of clothing and lifestyle brand Amsterdam 2 Brooklyn, from Verdi’s own Rich Perez.
Currently on the walls at Verdi is the work of Chris Capaci, self-described as “a Jersey City resident since 2010” who has “dedicated over 20 years to the arts of both photography and video.” His subject matter includes portraits of people, food and cocktails, natural landscapes, and bustling city streets. Down to Earth Farmers Market Chelsea: Saturdays, 9am-2pm | Seasonal, local food by vendors you can rely on for the basics and trust when it comes to embracing new cuisine and ingredients is the great strength of this weekly Market that pops up Saturdays, 9am-2pm, on West 23rd Street Off of Ninth Ave. And they’ve been there, early spring to early winter, year in and year out for a full decade (an occasion celebrated at the October 12 Market). A tip worth taking: Click here to sign up for their newsletter, and every week you’ll get a preview of what’s so special about the next Market. Also a source of food for thought in advance of each Saturday’s Market: A visit to its online presecce (click here to do so). A new addition for 2024: Textile Recycling! Bring your linens, old clothes, shoes, torn, stained, or new to recycle (look for the green bin). Also Note: Food Benefit Programs are welcome. Go to the Manager’s Tent to use your SNAP EBT card and get tokens to spend with the vendors. Matching Health Bucks are available ($2 for every $2 withdrawn, up to $10). FMNP vouchers can be used June-November. For a full explanation of benefits, visit this link. NYC residents who have questions about the FMNP program can dial 311.

Album Release Party for Puma Perl and Joe Sztabnik’s new album, Under Tenement Skies: Tuesday, November 12, 8pm to 11pm at the 11th Street Bar (510 E. 11th St. off Avenue A) | Puma Perl, a much-published poet who–full disclosure–is a contributing features reporter and film reviewer for Chelsea Community News–keeps plenty busy herself in the NYC music and spoken word scenes, often combining the two forms via her collaborations with a core group of intuitive instumentalists. All involved bring to their work a stage presence that’s always compelling and never contrived; these are longtime living human beings who don’t aspire to recreate the grit of a long-lost NYC–they’re still carrying it with them. How fitting Perl describes her current project as “a love song and a tribute to life and survival on the Lower East Side.”
For the album Under Tenement Skies, Perl provides the vocals and lyrics, with original music and production by Joe Sztabnik, and percussion on three songs by Dave Donen. At November 12’s lauch event, SoulCake opens the show at 8:30pm and The Puma Perl Band plays at 9:30pm. The album will be available for purchase in vinyl, CD and digital download formats. There is no cover or minimum at the bar. To purchase the album online, click here.
