Turkey Tradition Delivers to West Chelsea Destinations

November 18 and 19 saw the continuation of a local tradition, with turkeys and other Thanksgiving-centric foodstuff handed out to any and all, at four West Chelsea locations. Assisting with the distribution and/or underwriting were the Tenant Association leaders of Fulton and Elliott-Chelsea NYCHA Houses, Holy Apostles, Hudson Guild, Google, Chelsea Market, Jamestown, Triple Lift, Turner Construction, Haymarket Media, Morgan Stanley, Coach, Info Blox, NYS Senator Brad Hoylman-Sigal, and NYS Assemblymember Tony Simone. Below, see our photo roundup of scenes from three of the four stops.—Scott Stiffler

In an email to Chelsea Community News, Kayla Mills (Marketing & Communications Associate, Holy Apostles Soup Kitchen/Church of the Holy Apostles) noted the Thanksgiving turkey distribution took place “through our regular weekly Holy Apostles Soup Kitchen and Food Pantry. The SmartChoice kiosk [depicted in photos to follow] allows our food pantry guests to navigate our inventory of pantry items, and select foods that suit their dietary needs and cultural preferences… In the spirit of the Thanksgiving season, we plan to serve 1,400 households with groceries for the holiday weekend, including favorites like turkey, stuffing, cranberry sauce, corn muffin mix, and more… So far, we’ve distributed 1,291 turkeys, each weighing 10–14 lbs, to our Food Pantry guests.”
