Early Voting, Daily Through November 2 | The General Election is Tuesday, November 4–but you don’t have to wait until then to weigh in. In fact, you don’t have to wait at all. Early voting, as noted here, takes place in brick and mortar NYC locations daily through November 2. To find your poll site, click here. For the Contest List, click here. For a rundown of the six ballot proposals, click here. Feel as if you haven’t done enough clicking? Click here for our extensive roundup of info applicable to early voting as well as November 4 (aka Election Day).

Making Gay History Live Fall Events | The popular  Making Gay History (MGH) podcast has been making its way into the brick-and-mortar world this month, via an imaginative initiative from its creators. On Monday, October 27, MGH and co-presenter Life Jacket Theatre Co. convene at the iconic Stonewall Inn (53 Christopher St.) for Baking Gay History. The amiable take on Reality TV’s highly competitive bake-off genre leans more toward sweet than bitter, as “New York’s best amateur bakers vie for the Grand Prize as they showcase delicious baked goods celebrating key chapters and icons of LGBTQ+ history.” Celebrity judges include legendary activist/journalist Ann Northrop (currently seen weekly, as co-anchor of Gay USA). It’s hosted by MGH founder Eric Marcus (editor of Chelsea’s informative and opinionated Neighborhood Newsletter). For essential info, including how to purchase tickets, click here.

Free Breast Cancer Screening: Tuesday, October 28, 12pm-5pm | See the below flyer for info.

10th Precinct Community Council Meeting: Wednesday, October 29, 7pm Online | After holding last month’s back-from-summer-hiatus meeting at the 10th Precinct’s West 20th Street location, the October edition of this citizen-run Council slips those surly brick and mortar bonds with a Zoom-only meeting. The venue may have changed, but the proceedings will likely adhere to the usual structure: Council President Larry O’Neill (or perhaps VP Vincent Pizzonia) does introductory greeting duties followed by remarks from top Precinct leadership (often the CO, Captain Alexander R. Brathwaite). At that point, O’Neill or Pizzonia will moderate a Q&A session, with attendees encouraged to speak up about crime and quality of life concerns. Electeds officials or their reps, along with staff from the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office, are often on hand and accessible during the Q&A (although none of them showed for the September meeting). If you’re planning to show, click here for the Zoom link (and click here for 1-tap mobile instructions). Meeting ID: 879 9814 6949; Passcode: 929730. Note: Follow the Community Council on Facebook by clicking here. To visit the 10th Precinct online, click here for their nyc.gov page, where you can access weeklu crime and traffic stats and find out about the “Q-Team.” This new collection of 10th Precinct personnel replaces the defunct Build the Block program. Their function: Serve as a “go-to resource for addressing complaints impacting quality of life concerns in your neighborhood.”

Free Apple Cider & Fall Rooftop Views: Saturday, November 1, 12pm at Pier 57  (25 11th Ave. at W. 15th St.) | The seriously sweeping, swoon-inducing panoramic scene that can only be seen from high atop Pier 57 beckons you on November 1. With Halloween’s reverie a fast-retreating memory, it’s peak season for colorful foliage and the one true taste of fall–and we ain’t talkin’ pumpkin spice. Bird & Branch–a specialty coffee roaster located at Market 57–has the answer: It’s apple cider, an seasonal classic made even better when Bird & Branch serves it your favorite way: On the house! The fall free-for-all begins at noon. So raise a glass with friends and family, as you huddle together in front of Pier 57’s Instagram-worthy nautical pumpkin installation. You’ll walk away with a picture that’s worth 1,000 words. And the event organizers will get you started by supplying the first 43: “Whether you’re a New Yorker looking for a hidden gem or a visitor seeking a memorable fall escape, Pier 57 offers a free, picture-perfect way to enjoy crisp autumn air, city skyline views, and a taste of the season, all in one spot.”

Halloween on Hudson BOOlevard: Friday, October 31, 3pm to 7pm in Bella Abzug Park (btw. W. 35th & 36th St.) | This free event for kids and families isn’t kidding around. It offers TWO bouncy houses, spooky photo ops, movie screenings, “deals on fun fall snacks and drinks,” and a Trick or Treat Trail–with, one hopes, candy at trail’s end (and maybe along the way?). Click here for details.

The Full Board Meeting of Manhattan Community Board 4 (MCB4): Wednesday, November 5, 6:30pm Online via Zoom & YouTube and In-Person at Pier 57 (25 11th Ave. at W. 15th St.) | The entirety of MCB4’s membership meets monthly to discuss, and then vote on, policy-driven letters generated by its committees (including the Clinton / Hell’s Kitchen Land Use and the Waterfront, Parks & Environment committees). Upfront, time is set aside to hear from elected officials or their reps. Local residents and stakeholders also have two chances to speak–via a Public Hearing whose topic is about to come before the board, and an anything-goes Public Session. Speakers are given two minutes–one if the evening’s agenda is particularly packed. (The agenda is posted the Friday before the meeting, and can be found here.) To attend via Zoom and sign up to speak during the Public Hearing and/or Public Session, click here. (there’s also a sign-up sheet at the in-person venue). Want to attend via phone? The call-in number is 646-828-7666 (Webinar ID: 161 368 0437). Attend via livestream on MCB4’s YouTube channel–the Forever Home, in archive form, of all MCB4 meetings.

Take the NYC Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD) Community Needs Assessment Survey | This collection of feedback gives NewYorkers the chance to shape the future of their neighborhoods by identifying what City programs and services are needed the most. Happening now through November (and possibly further into the fall), the online survey takes about 10 minutes to complete. ”Your answers,” the DYCD assures, “are confidential and anonymous and will be used only for program planning.” To take the survey, click here.
