NYC Mayor Mamdani Warmly Received at Brisk Inauguration Ceremony

Change was in the air, alongside a chill which didnt cool off the enthusiasm of those who gathered on January 1, 2026 for the inauguration of Zohran Mamdani as New York City’s mayor (sworn in by Bernie Sanders, U.S. Senator from Vermont). Former Manhattan Borough President Mark Levine was sworn in as NYC Comptroller by NYS Attorney General Letitia James; Alexandria Ocasio Cortez (U.S. rep., 14th congressional district, NY) spoke; Jumaane Williams was sworn in by a group of immigrant New Yorkers for his new term as NYC’s Public Advocate; Hamilton actor Javier Muñoz sang the National Anthem; and actor Mandy Patinkin sang Over the Rainbow with students from Staten Island’s PS22.
