Here’s What’s Happening This Week (in order of appearance):
The 10th Precinct Community Council / Vanderbilt University NYC presents Cocktails & Construction / Pride the Block / Down to Earth Farmers Market Chelsea

The 10th Precinct Community Council: Wednesday, May 27, 7pm at the 10th Precinct (230 W. 20th St. btw. 9th & 10th Aves.) | School’s (almost) out for the summer, as this last-Wednesday-of-the-monrth series anticipates its annual June through August hiatus. May 27, however, will see Council president Larry O’Neill joined by top 10th Precinct leadership for an open-topic discussion of loal crime-oriented concerns. It all unfolds in the form of a Q&A session during which, we’ve heard, those in attendance just might be seen enjoying complimentary goodies from a highly respected local donut shop. During the Council’s summer hiatus months (and all year long, for that matter), local crime concerns should be addressed by calling 311, 911, and/or the 10th Precincts’s Community Affairs office, which can be reached at 212-741-8226. (Leave a message if it goes to voicemil; your call will be returned.)
Cocktails & Construction: Thursday, May 28. 5pm at Vanderbilt University NYC in Moore 1D (enter at 429 W. 20th St. btw. 9th& 10th Aves.) | What a difference the time of day makes! The java-centric early morning Coffee & Construction series from Vanderbilt University NYC has morphed into a 5pm, schmooze-with-optional-booze event entitled Cocktails & Construction. Although your RSVP is appreciated (sign up here), the public is invited to drop by unannounced, to experience this “open space for conversation about campus progress and plans.” That progress is currently unfolding in the form of upgrades to the former General Theological Seminary grounds–which will soon welcome VU NYC’s inaugural class of undergraduate students, here to study on campus while learning from local internship participants. As for the May 27 event: VU NYC”s ever-affable James Kellerhouse hosts, alongside the campus project management team. Lest you think they’ve forgotten their roots, know that those who decline the cocktail option are invited to “sample a special Vanderbilt [coffee] brew.”
Pride the Block: Saturday, May 30, 1pm on the 400 Block of West 21st Street (btw. 9th & 10th Aves,) | The 400 block of West 21st Street–known for their string of stunning entries in the neighborhood’s kooky, competetive, eerily extravagant Halloween Decorating Contest, has another claim to fame, thanks to this relatively new annual tradition. It’s Year III for Pride the Block, which sees the span between Ninth and 10th Avenues festooned with Pride-themed bunting throughout the month of June. The block-long line of bunting packs quite a visual punch, and sends a clear message of support and solidarity to LGBTQ+ people (who, even in the heart of NYC, don’t necessarily get “Ally” vibes on every block they walk). As for how it gets that way, well, that’s what this event is for. Join your neighbors, share some laughs, and, yes, enjoy an afternoon cocktail if that’s your thing. See the below flyer for more info…

Down to Earth Farmers Market Chelsea: Saturdays, 9am-2pm on West 23rd St. off Ninth Ave. | April saw the welcome return of this opportunity to eat well, while supporting local vendors. See the below flyer for details. To sign up for the Market’s email newsletter (sent every Thursday), click here.
