Here’s What’s Happening This Week (in order of appearance):
The June Full Board Meeting of Manhattan Community Board 4 / The Opers Next Door / Pet Adoption Block Party / Down to Earth Farmers Market Chelsea

The June Full Board Meeting of Manhattan Community Board 4 (MCB4): Wednesday, June 3, 6:30pm at Pier 57 (25 11th Ave. at W. 15th St.) & Online via YouTube & Zoom| During a meeting usually held on the first Wednesday of the month, all MCB4 members gather to vote on letters generated at the previous month’s committee meetings. Also on the Agenda: Two opportunities for the public to speak, via an uninterrupted two-minute slot. (If the Agenda is jam-packed, the slot’s runtime can be cut in half–so prepare accordingly.) During the Public Hearing, spekers can address a specific issue to be voted on by the Board during that night’s meeting. The Public Session is an anything-goes affair, during which the public addresses MCB4 on the topic, or topics, of their choice. Attending via Zoom is the only way to claim one of those Public slots, other than showing up in person. Zoom registration can be accomplished by clicking here. Note: Reports from local electeds or their reps are also a regular feature of full board meetings, as is a report from MCB4’s District Manager. (The June 3 Full Board meeting will be the last one for departing-from-NYC Jesse Bodine, whose time as MCB4’s DM leaves big shoes to fill, where matters of civility and accessibility are concerned). But worry not: Relatively newly minted MCB4 Chair Leslie Boghosian Murphy (on the job since 01-01-2026) presides over the proceedings–so the competence and decency factor created by Bodine’s departure will not be allowed to grow in the manner one might expect from a hungry sinkhole or an excpanding universe. Sorry. Back on topic: To view the letters on June 3’s Agenda, click here.To attend by phone, call 646-828-7666 (Webinar ID: 161 368 0437). You can also Livestream the meeting on the MCB4 YouTube channel, which archives all of its public meetings,
The Opera Next Door presents An Operatic Melting Pot: Thursday, June 4, 6pm on West 21st St. btw. 9th & 10th Aves.| This one-hour “stoop concert” sees The Opera Next Door–a Brooklyn-based independent opera company–return to Chelsea with another free, outdoor event that’s about as up-close-and-personal as you can get. The 400 block of West 21st Street is their stage, for a performance that literally removes the barrier between audience and artist. Admission is free, so all you need to do is show up on time and bring something to sit on.

Pet Adoption Block Party: Sunday, June 7, 11am to 4pm at Union Square | This open-air pet adoption event fills Union Square with 400+ potential new furry friends. Animal Care Centers of New York will be teaming up with the nonprofit Petco Love, to bring people and pets together. With the right match, both concerned parties will leave with a new leash (sorry, “lease”) on life! Also expected to be present at the event: The foster-based rescue group Muddy Paws. See the below flyer for more info…

Down to Earth Farmers Market Chelsea: Saturdays, 9am-2pm on West 23rd St. off Ninth Ave. | April saw the welcome return of this opportunity to eat well, while supporting local vendors. See the below flyer for details. To sign up for the Market’s email newsletter (sent every Thursday), click here.
