EVENTS OF THE WEEK

Annual Pride Events ‘March’ Their Way Through NYC: Sat./Sun., June 27/28 | Whether you’re one of the many who march down the middle of the street or one of the many more who cheer from the sidelines, NYC always caps the final weekend of Pride Month with a trio of very vocal, very visible celebrations.

On Saturday, June 27, the NYC Dyke March steps off from Bryant Park at 5pm. Taking place sans permits or sponsors, the NYC Dyke March “is a protest, not a parade,” notes the event’s website. The following day, at noon, the 57th Annual NYC Pride March begins at 26th Street and Fifth Ave., passes The Stonewall Inn on its way through the West Village, then concludes at the dispersal point of Seventh Ave. and West 15th St.

Billing itself as “among the world’s oldest, largest LGBTQ+ demonstrations,” its comprehensive cavalcade of participants also qualifies this as one of the world’s longest public declarations of pride (the 2018 version was over 12 hours long!). Founded in 2018 as a “no cope, no corps, no BS” alternative to the Pride March, the Eighth Annual Queer Liberation March gathers at Union Square and concludes at Foley Square. This year’s theme is “Breaking the Chains of War and Oppression for Trans and Immigrant Rights.”
