MANHATTAN COMMUNITY BOARD 4 FULL BOARD MEETING | Yes, it’s called Today in Chelsea, and yes, we’re stepping outside that self-imposed “day of ” edict, to preview tomorrow’s installment of Community Board 4’s monthly full board meeting. It’s a love letter to anyone who’s ever come across construction in their neighborhood, and said, “But nobody told me about that.” CB4 meetings are a breath of fresh air for the canary in the coal mine: an early warning for things to come, as the board reviews and debates everything from rezoning to a liquor license renewal request. It’s quality quality-of-life info at the ready, and no CB4 meeting has more to offer in that area than the monthly full board meeting, where committee letters go to the full board for vote. Show up a bit before start time, and sign up for the Public Comment section, where you get the mic for 2 minutes and can take that opportunity to make your voice heard. Wed., May 1, 6:30pm at the Hudson Guild Elliot Center (441 W. 26th St., btw. 9th & 10th Aves.), in the Dan Carpenter Room. For more info visit CB4 by clicking here.
The Tribeca Film Festival: Through May 5 | A reliable source of compelling documentaries, world premiere feature films, virtual reality experiences and special events, this festival, which began as way to bolster its namesake neighborhood after the events of 9/11, always has a strong presence in Chelsea. This year, the SVA Theatre (333 W. 23rd St. btw. 8th & 9th Aves.) hosts a number of notable screenings. Chelsea Community News recently spoke with one of TFF’s programmers, who talked about the ongoing mission to feature emerging voices, offer interactive opportunities to festivalgoers, and champion filmmakers who choose to showcase their work online.
