This Week in Chelsea: May 27-June 2

It’s this website’s prerogative to change its mind–or at least change formats. That’s why all of the activities you’ve enjoyed reading about in our “Today in Chelsea” section are now to be found here, fresh every Monday, in our “This Week in Chelsea” section. Keep checking this page throughout the week, because we’ll be adding new content often (listings get moved to last in cue, after the event happens). Oh, and you’ll also notice, sometimes we go outside the strictly speaking realm of Chelsea for events we’re especially fond of. Oh, that “prerogative” thing: is there anything it can’t (be made to) do?

Sat, June 1 & Sun., June 2: West Chelsea Artists Open Studio | Talents can be discovered and artwork can be purchased directly from the artists, at studio prices, without a gallery markup (which can be 50% or more), at this free, self-guided annul walking tour, taking place Sat., June 1 and Sun., June 2, 12-6pm. More than 60 West Chelsea artists in 11 buildings will open their studios to the public. The tour starts at the West Chelsea Arts building (508-526 W. 26th St. btw. 10th & 11th Aves.), where visitors can pickup tour maps and artists information. Visit www.westchelseaartists.com.

Sunday Services with Chelsea Community Church | Chelsea Community Church was founded by lay people in 1975 and has never had a regular pastor (they do have a part-time pastoral counselor). As result of not having a regular pastor, they have a variety of guest speakers in the pulpit. Coming up at the 12 noon Sunday worship services, meeting in St. Peter’s Episcopal Church Chelsea (346 W. 20th St., btw. 8th & 9th Aves.): On June 2, The Rev. Joseph J. Nicholson (Episcopal) is the guest. A chaplain with the EMS division of the New York City Fire Department, Rev. Nicholson was ordained by the American Fellowship Church, a nondenominational Protestant church, in 2017, and remains active in the Episcopal church. Special music by Joey Jackson. On June 9, the guest is the nondenominational Min. Ronneak M. Lee, creator of Beloved, Beautiful and No Longer Bound, “BBANLB,” a program that ministers to young women, equipping them with tools to work on self esteem and self awareness and mental health issues. She earned a master’s degree in pastoral care and counseling at New Theological Seminary and currently is working on finishing her first book, which is to be released later this year. Special Music by Otto Walberg. For more info, visit chelseachurch.org.
