This Week in Chelsea: April 25-May 1, 2022

8th Ave. Street Fair / The 1oth Precinct Community Council /  The Eagle NYC Presents Continuum  /  Stargazing on the High Line /

Saturday, April 30, 11am-6pm on Eighth Ave., btw. 14th & 23d Street: Street Fair | That crisp but comfortable wisp of wind accompanied by warm rays of sunshine isn’t the only indicator that spring is in the air. One other surefire way of knowing we’ve aged out of winter is the reemergence of pop-up street fairs/festivals–and this is one of our favorite annual rites of passage. Over 300 vendors will be on hand.

Wednesday, April 27, 7pm via Zoom: The 10th Precinct Community Council | Held on the last Wednesday of the month (sans its looming June-August summer hiatus), this citizen-run opportunity to interact with local NYPD leadership continues to take place online, as per Council President Larry O’Neill’s abundance of caution. The lack of physical proximity shouldn’t be mistaken for absence of accountability: 10th Precinct Commanding Officer Captain Robert Gault will still bring his “A” game to the often spirited Q&A session, during which he’s been known to provide info and insights regarding active investigations, and vow to take action on new concerns brought to his attention (hence the “accountability”–attendees will often ask for updates on topics from the previous month’s meeting). Wednesday, April 27, 7pm: The Eagle NYC Presents Continuum | Chelsea’s stalwart, sexy, spiked leather bar (with one of the best rooftops in town) offers on site and online, the latest installment of their intergenerational social series that speaks equally to the contemporary crowd and the men who were cutting their teeth back when their younger counterparts were teething. Spring Awakens is the theme, explored via the format of a “Tonight Show-style drag show.” Your host, fittingly enough, is longtime drag scenester Witti Repartee. For more info, see the below flyer. The Eagle NYC is located at 554 W. 28th St. (btw. 10th & 11th Aves.). Continuum takes place live at The Eagle and streams on Facebook, accessible via their website (to visit the website, click here).

Stargazing on the High Line, Tuesdays Between Dusk and 9:45pm | Members of the Amateur Astronomers Association take you through the paces of peering through high-powered telescopes to see rare celestial sights. This free program takes place on the High Line at 13th St. just south of The Standard Hotel. Overcast conditions or inclement weather may cause cancellation. If a session needs to be cancelled, a post will appear on @highlinenyc’s Twitter feed by 3pm on the day of the event. For more info, click here.
