What a difference a week makes: We publish this photo essay on the cold and rainy day of May 7, 2022–but seven days ago, on April 30, it was strictly blue skies, posters for the wall, short-sleeved shirts for warm weather to come, and fresh, hot, as-easy-to-walk-with-as-it-is-easy-to-walk-off food of every imaginable iteration. Where else could it be but Eighth Avenue between West 14th and 23rd Streets? This spring street fair is your annual sign that the season of closed-off stretches of city block after city block has returned.
