What a difference a week makes: We publish this photo essay on the cold and rainy day of May 7, 2022–but seven days ago, on April 30, it was strictly blue skies, posters for the wall, short-sleeved shirts for warm weather to come, and fresh, hot, as-easy-to-walk-with-as-it-is-easy-to-walk-off food of every imaginable iteration. Where else could it be but Eighth Avenue between West 14th and 23rd Streets? This spring street fair is your annual sign that the season of closed-off stretches of city block after city block has returned. The below pix were snapped by Chelsea Community News’ Scott Stiffler and new/valued contributor, Anastasia Damato. More about the source of her pix at the tail end of the photo essay…
The above photos by Anastasia Damato originally appeared as part of her April 30, 2022 posting on the Chelsea NYC Community Bulletin Board, a private Facebook group founded to, they note, “build and support community in our neighborhood by offering a place for sharing, giving, recommending, and requesting whatever you’re looking for—opportunities, resources, items, news, and more. . . We welcome those who live in, work in or just love being in Chelsea.” For questions about the group or to join, click here.
