Here’s What’s Happening This Week (in order of appearance):
Chelsea Neighbors United Actions / The Inaguration of NYC Council Member Carl Wilson, District 3, Manhattan / West Chelsea Artists Open Studios / The Totality of All Things / Down to Earth Farmers Market Chelsea
Chelsea Neighbors United (CNU) at Metropolis Parking / 5pm to 6pm at 18 Morton St. at 7th Ave. | This call for public protest finds the Chelsea-based group in firm opposition to ICE, at a location decidedly west of 14th Street. “Since being made to leave the Hudson River Park,” notes CNU, “ICE is looking for parking nearby.” So sets the stage for this March 14 action that placed the figurative Unwelcome Mat at the foot of the place where ICE vehicles are parked. “We need ICE out of our neighborhoods, and that includes their parking/staging grounds,” says CNU. See the below flyer for details.

Chelsea Neighbors United Presents Creating a Safe Home & Community: Wednesday, May 20, 6pm via Zoom / Free (Reservation Required) | Says CNU of this May 20 event, “This is both a follow-up from our January meeting and a chance for new folks to learn how to support those who work in our homes. Zoom meeting, Wednesday, May 20, 6pm. RSVP is required https://bit.ly/4tWu5SR.” See the below flyer for detils.
The Inaguration of NYC Council Member Carl Wilson, District 3, Manhattan / Thursday, May 14, 5:30pm at Laura Pels Theatre (111 W. 46th St. btw. 6th & 7th Aves.) | Having emerged as the winner of April 28’s Special Election, Carl Wilson makes it official on May 14, with this public inauguration event. His new role as District 3 Council Member brings the diehard Dem back to familiar territory, having served as Council Member (now NYS Senator) Erik Bottcher’s Chief of Staff. We’re looking forward to seeing Wilson make good on one of his top campaign promises–to staff the District 3 office with new names and faces tasked with effectively advocating for constituents. Sure to serve through the end of the year,Wilson now finds himself back on the campaign trail, hoping for another decisive showing as a Council District 3 candidate in June 23’s Primary Election. But first, a pause to celebrate, on May 14. The public is invited to attend Wilson’s inauguration. RSVP to TINYURL.COM/CFCC-INAUG. For any questions, please email info@carlwilsonnyc.com.

The 2026 West Chelsea Artists Open Studios: 12pm-6pm, Sat./Sun. May 16/17, Throughout the Chelsea Gallery District with Preview Reception Fri, May 15, 6pm to 8pm at the West Chelsea Gallery Building, Gallery 202 (508–526 W. 26th St. btw, 10th/11th Aves.) | This free, self-guided walking tour of West Chelsea’s many independent studios invites you to meet painters, sculptors, photographers, and multidisciplinary artists—and purchase artwork directly from its creator (without the gallery markup).

Artist and Open Studios Executive Producer Scotto Mycklebust says the event proudly provides “a direct bridge between artists and the public. It opens the studio door—literally—and invites people into the process, the conversation, and the experience of art as it’s being made.” The tour begins by picking up a map at the West Chelsea Building Information Center, located in the lobby of 508–526 West 26th Street (btw, 10th/11th Aves.). The Totality of All Things / Through May 17; Tues. through Sat. at 7:30pm; Sun. at 3pm | At Theater 154 (154 Christopher St.). Click here for tickets ($25 general; $15, students, seniors, teachers) / Runtime: 90 minutes | Northern Manhattan-based UP Theater Company’s latest production unfolds at decidedly Downtown Theater 154, whose titular address is found on Christopher Street. Directed by The Barrow Group’s Shannon Patterson, The Totality of All Things is Erik Gernnand’s deep dive into “uncertainty about the nature of truth.” The murky matter reveals itself during the aftermath of a hate crime, when an Indiana high school journalism teacher’s reaction to a defaced Pride Month display pulls students and faculty into a pursuit of justice that muddies the line between conviction and obsession.
