FDNY Finds Chelsea Open Street a Perfect Place to Practice

PHOTOS & TEXT BY MELODIE BRYANT | One of the most rewarding things about living on an Open Street is that the FDNY uses it to practice for emergencies. That happened over the weekend, when FDNY Engine 3/Tower Ladder 12/Battalion 7 took advantage of our Open Street’s lack of through traffic to check equipment and log in some training time. In the process, they put on a show for residents of West 22nd Street. When they were done, the cherry picker fit nicely into the back, and they returned to the fire station at W. 19th St.

Practicing raising the “cherry picker” smoothly.

New York’s Bravest go through the paces of lowering the braces to support their truck (the front wheels come off the ground!).

The kids loved it! One grandparent shared some quality FaceTime Live time with his grandson.
